November slows things down just enough to enjoy a peaceful getaway before the holidays. Then, almost overnight, twinkling lights begin appearing and Eureka Springs transforms for Christmas.

If you've been looking for an excuse to sneak away for a few days, some of our favorite weekends of the year are still ahead. From fall drives and Halloween weekend to Christmas lights, parades and holiday shopping, there's plenty to experience between now and the end of December.

And after a day exploring town, you can retreat to one of our cozy cabins in Eureka Springs, warm up by the fireplace, relax in the tub and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by the Ozarks.

Here's a look at what's ahead this fall and holiday season.

October is one of those months when simply being in Eureka Springs is an event of its own.

Cooler temperatures make it a wonderful time to wander downtown, spend an afternoon exploring the shops and galleries, enjoy a leisurely meal or get in the car and see where the winding Ozark roads take you. As the leaves begin changing, the hills surrounding Eureka Springs put on their annual fall show.

It's also the beginning of true cozy season. After spending the day outside, there's something particularly inviting about heading back to your cabin, turning on the fireplace and settling in for a quiet evening together.

If your schedule gives you some extra time around Indigenous Peoples’ Day, this is a great opportunity to turn an ordinary October weekend into a longer Eureka Springs getaway.

Spend your days exploring the Ozarks, browsing downtown, enjoying the fall weather and finding a favorite restaurant or two. Take the scenic route instead of the fastest one. Stop when you find a beautiful view. Most importantly, give yourself permission not to pack every minute of the weekend with plans.

Fall in Eureka Springs is just as much about slowing down and enjoying where you are as it is about checking things off a list.

Hillberry Music Festival — Oct. 7–11 in Eureka Springs, with five nights of bluegrass, funk, local artists, workshops, activities, art, food and craft vendors.

Halloween With the Rosses — Oct. 9 & 10 at Melonlight Theater.

Eureka Springs doesn't exactly need much help getting into the Halloween spirit.

With winding streets, Victorian architecture, historic buildings and more than a few famous ghost stories, the town provides a pretty spectacular setting for Halloween. And in 2026, Halloween falls on a Saturday, making the final weekend of October especially tempting for a quick getaway.

Explore downtown, take a ghost tour, enjoy the costumes and Halloween atmosphere around town, then retreat from the excitement for a peaceful night back at Eureka Sunset.

It's a fun combination: enjoy the spooky side of Eureka Springs when you want it and the quiet side of the Ozarks when you're ready to call it a night.

• Rocky Horror + Pass the Ammo Double Feature — Friday, Oct. 30: At the Auditorium, starting at 7 PM.

• Downtown Trick-or-Treating — Saturday, Oct. 31: Downtown businesses hand out candy from 4–6 PM on Halloween.

Once October winds down, Eureka Springs settles into a different rhythm.

The air gets cooler, the crowds begin to thin and evenings seem made for fireplaces, soaking tubs and taking your time over dinner. If your idea of a getaway involves fewer plans and more time together, November may be one of the most underrated times to visit.

At Eureka Sunset, this is when some of the things that make our cabins and suites so inviting really start to shine. Spend the day exploring, then come back, turn on the fireplace, settle in for the evening and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.

Fall isn't finished quite yet. Eureka Springs Fall Diversity Weekend takes place November 6–8, bringing visitors back to town for another lively weekend of entertainment and community.

The Veterans Day Parade also takes place Saturday, November 7, adding another reason to spend the weekend in Eureka Springs.

And if Veterans Day gives you some extra flexibility in your schedule, consider staying beyond Sunday. Check in for the weekend and stretch your visit into a four- or five-day getaway. You'll still have plenty of time to head home before Veterans Day itself.

It's a chance to enjoy one final extended fall escape before Thanksgiving plans and Christmas preparations take over the calendar.

• Fall Diversity Weekend — Nov. 6–8
  This is the main event of the weekend, with citywide activities, performances, meetups, workshops and other events.

• Veterans’ Day Parade — Saturday, Nov. 7, 1–2 PM
  Takes place downtown and honors veterans and active military.

• 5th Annual Flannel Fest — Saturday, Nov. 7, 3–7:30 PM
  This one is fun for our purposes: games, live music, food, a fire pit and s’mores. It's free and is held in conjunction with Diversity Weekend.

• The Shandies Live — Saturday, Nov. 7, 5–7:30 PM
  Live acoustic music is part of Flannel Fest that evening.

• Sunday Sessions with Skye — Sunday, Nov. 8, 6–9 PM
  A low-key live-music option for people extending their stay through Sunday night.

Not every great Eureka Springs weekend needs a major festival attached to it.

November 20–22 falls into that wonderful little window just before Thanksgiving and the official beginning of the Christmas season. Downtown is getting ready for the holidays, shops are perfect for getting a head start on Christmas gifts, restaurants are inviting and the pace is a little more relaxed.

Spend the afternoon downtown and then come back to Eureka Sunset, turn on the fireplace, take a long soak and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.

Sometimes that's exactly what a getaway should be.

Thanksgiving dinner may barely be finished before Eureka Springs begins its transformation into a Christmas town.

Thanksgiving weekend kicks off the holiday season with Christmas lights, shopping and festivities throughout town. On Saturday, November 28, the Shop Small Saturday Celebration encourages visitors to explore Eureka Springs' locally owned shops and find unique gifts while supporting local businesses.

Later that day, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting brings everyone together in Basin Spring Park and officially welcomes the Christmas season downtown.

The holiday lights at The Great Passion Play also begin Thanksgiving night, adding another must-see Christmas experience to the season. The grounds come alive with a huge display of lights, along with the Christmas Snow Village and its trains.

This is the weekend when fall begins giving way to Christmas—and suddenly the holidays are here.

By December, Eureka Springs is fully dressed for Christmas.

Lights fill downtown, storefronts are decorated for the season and holiday events give you plenty of reasons to bundle up and explore. Even an ordinary evening can become part of the experience—walk through downtown beneath the lights, do a little Christmas shopping, enjoy dinner together and take the scenic drive back to your cabin.

The first weekend of December brings Storybook Christmas Weekend, including the Christmas Parade of Lights, Santa appearances, the Eureka Express, Christmas Tour of Homes and other festivities.

While that weekend is already very popular, Christmas in Eureka Springs doesn't end when the parade does. Holiday celebrations continue throughout December, and we still have some wonderful weekends available for a Christmas getaway.

If you want the Christmas atmosphere without visiting during the first big holiday weekend, December 11–13 deserves a spot on your calendar.

On Saturday, December 12, Eureka Springs Living Windows transforms downtown storefronts into live holiday scenes from 5–7 PM. Instead of simply looking at Christmas window displays, you'll find living characters and performers bringing the windows to life as you make your way through downtown.

The Truckers Christmas Parade is also scheduled for December 12, adding even more lights and holiday spirit to the weekend.

Add in the Christmas lights throughout town and at The Great Passion Play, and you have all the ingredients for a festive December weekend away.

• Hot Cocoa & Cookie Crawl — Friday, Dec. 11, 5–7 PM. Stroll downtown while participating businesses serve holiday cookies and hot cocoa.

• Home for the Holidays Holiday Showcase — Friday, Dec. 11, 7–9 PM. Local singers and groups perform holiday music at the Auditorium; admission is two canned goods for the local food bank.

• Christmas at the Inns — Saturday, Dec. 12, 1–5 PM. Tour decorated historic inns, hotels and B&Bs around Eureka Springs. Tickets are $30 and include a trolley pass.

• Living Windows — Saturday, Dec. 12, 5–7 PM. Downtown storefronts become live holiday scenes with characters and performers.

• Eureka Christmas Express — Saturday, Dec. 12, 3–6 PM. Holiday train ride with Christmas stories, Santa, hot cocoa and photo opportunities.

One of the best things about visiting Eureka Springs during December is that the Christmas experience isn't limited to a single weekend.

Come downtown to see the lights and decorations. Browse the shops for gifts you won't find everywhere else. Find somewhere cozy for dinner. Drive out to see the Christmas lights. Then head back to your cabin or suite and enjoy a quiet evening together.
